Environment Healthy and Safety Program
Everyone knows about the direct costs of accidents, but there are indirect costs of accidents
too, which will give an undesirable effect on progress. Apart from the cost, human life
concerned is most important. The consciousness of this fundamental fact is essential while
implementing an effective prevention program.
We have a Safety activity task group (SATG); EHS manager is a head of the SATG, all our site
engineers, site supervisors and one representative from each major Sections are members of
SATG.
Purpose
The purpose of the SATG is to oversee the entire EHS program to ensure that it is functioning
properly and that injuries and illnesses are being reduced. They will also coordinate overall
activities involved in promoting safety, health and environmental issues. The SATG team
circulates all accident & incident reports on monthly basis to the entire team of Shrishti Power
Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and takes a sign off from all the team members.
Program ideas
Some ideas that may be used by SATG to ensure program effectiveness include the following:
- Review the entire EHS system Annually
- Provide and maintain safety related signs at work spots.
- Select and distribute appropriate safety posters.
- Recommend an annual safety – health emphasis program.
- Provide awards for employees who have worked for many years without incurring serious injuries (Medical cases)
- Suggest special – emphasis program to correct specific safety and health problems.
- Distribute special safety and healthy bulletin to employees on specific items such as holiday safety, vacation safety, driving safety and home safety.
- Recommend specific individuals to attend special conferences
- Arrange for individuals to visit other sites/ work spots and review their safety program.
Review Meetings
When SATG meets each month, topic of conversation should center on how the overall EHS
system can be improved. Member assignments will be related to those programs within the
system that are intended to recognize efforts, broadcast safety and health and generally
ensure that employees are constantly remanded to work safety.
Commitments
A lack of commitments will be quickly sensed by employees. This attitude will then spread
throughout the organization, leading to failure of the system. SATG maintains a strong
commitment to preserving the safety and well - being of employees and demonstrating a high
level of commitment through setting a good examples and expecting employees to follow that
examples.
Accountability
No one can be with all the employees every minutes of the day to ensure that they are wearing
proper personal protective equipment ( PPE), following lockout procedures, or doing all other
things required by the job to be safe and that is not how it should be. As adult workers,
employees must assume responsibility for their own action, including working safely.
Unfortunately, it is doesn't always work that way. For their own reasons, employees often
violate safety and health rules. Site engineers and supervisors who fail to hold employees
accountable for their action and not doing their job right. Accountability should rank high
among the engineers priorities.
Assignments
The important of assignment as described in this chapter cannot be overstated. This is how
employees get involved in the safety- health process, and when assignments are not made,
the system will not be nearly as effective.
